LECTURE: HERONS AND EGRETS AND THE PLUME WARS

October 18 @ 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM

LECTURE: HERONS AND EGRETS AND THE PLUME WARS
Wednesday, Oct. 18: 1-2:30 p.m.
THE CENTER OF ANNA MARIA ISLAND
The Fall lecture is free and open to the public
Presented by: Alice Newlon

Florida was ground zero for the Plume Wars. You will meet characters you know…Marie Antoinette and John James Audubon. You will meet some you do not know, like Guy Bradley, the first environmental martyr, and Boston socialite Harriet Hemingway—no one has used tea more effectively since the Boston tea party.
They weave a fascinating story of the collision of birds, fashion, economics, politics, which nearly brought many of Florida’s birds to extinction. You will get to know our herons and egrets too, in detail. After the presentation, there will be an optional walk in Perico Park.
